Sports and Orthopedics

WE ARE NOT ALL PAINTED WITH THE SAME BRUSH!

From being on field and in clinic with both elite and recreational athletes, to playing sport myself; each sport and playing field/grounds/arena comes with its differing demands, injuries and rehabilitation.

“If you believe it the mind can achieve it”

Injury can be tough on so many levels because for many of us sport, athletics and being active is not only a physical feel good thing but also a mental health thing. When an injury occurs it can be an acute injury acquired during movement (ie ankle sprain in soccer) or something that sets in over time (ie shoulder pain in baseball) or something that can come and go. Regardless, it hinders the ability to train, perform and enjoy sport. Sport and orthopedic rehabilitation requires an understanding of the mechanism of injury, what the body is already hosting, requirements of the sport and the individual goals of the person.

Its all about the journey, not the outcome.

Every person has a different experience as an athlete, either elite or recreational, and all should be assessed and treated with a whole body approach. There are so many layers to an injury from initial insult to inflammation to emotion to embarking on a rehabilitation and recovery journey. It can be one that is short and sweet, to one that requires a bit more time. Rehabilitation and recovery should be viewed from a lens of collaboration, education, support, advocacy and centred around the individuals athletic goals.
