Pelvic Health For All Ages

Pelvic Health is an aspect of our well being that impacts anyone at any age, of any identification.

You see, everyone has a pelvic floor!

Pelvic health plays a vital role in complete physical, mental, emotional, social and sexual well being.

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that lives in the bony pelvis, which is shaped like a bowl. The muscles have MANY interactions with the body through breathe, movement, emotion, elimination, intimacy, birth and much more. Every person has a pelvic floor, and the as you can see the pelvic floor does not exist as an entity on its own, therefore the assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor should be an extensive and inclusive whole body approach.

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation

Pelvic floor rehabilitation with a pelvic health physiotherapist is essential for many demographics especially when experiencing any issues with leakage with or without exercise (stress, giggle or urge incontinence), constipation or IBS, endometriosis, vulvovaginal pain, back, groin and hip pain, diastasis rectus abdominis issues, pregnancy (pelvic gridle pain, continence issues), post partum (vaginal or cesarean), return to exercise, post surgery and transitioning from perimenopause to menopause.

The pediatric population and those in their 20/30s are a very underserved population. Indeed they too have pelvic floors and often suffer in silence from issues such as constipation, bowel and bladder leakage, sport/stress urinary incontinence, painful periods, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, sexual identity and transitional change. I believe that pelvic health education should start early on with the knowledge of the body, movement, breathe and beyond to give this population autonomy and the ability to identify when/if they are experiencing any issues. In treating this population education Is essential; and the real time ultrasound is a fabulous tool to promote understanding and learning through external techniques and biofeedback.
